MCU is a faith-based community organization comprised of 60 congregations from the St Louis Metropolitan area. The organization’s mission is to bring about racial and economic equity in our St Louis communities and neighborhoods. Holy Trinity Catholic Church has been a member of MCU since 1996.
MCU has worked with other congregations toward these victories:
- Save Historic and Rebuilding Communities tax credits
- Provide full funding for Medicaid recipients
- Secure funding that city arterial roads be state maintained
- Securing ½ of 1% of the $535 million of the new I-64 Re-Building Project funds for apprenticeship, training and employment of persons of color, women, or low-income individuals
HOLY GROUND
MCU – Congregations Allied Community Improvement (MCU-CACI)
Holy Trinity participates with the MCU-CACI partnership in the HOLY GROUND project. Parishioners have selected several blocks near the Church and have designated those blocks as, “HOLY GROUND”. As of December of 2007, thirteen units of mixed income housing have been constructed in this area as a result of this project.
Holy Trinity parishioners with the aid of MCU-CACI focus on improving the quality of life throughout the community and have been instrumental in:
- Identifying and closing drug houses
- Working with the police department to identify nuisance properties
- Working to identify vacant and unsafe structures for demolition
- Building affordable housing in the Hyde Park neighborhood. The goal is 40 new affordable homes.
Time commitments for Core Team members vary by project. If you are interested in joining this committee involved in important community work, please contact Donna Lindsey at
