We are in the spring time of the Church – the celebration of rising to new
life.
For Holy Trinity
Church, in some ways, it
means embracing a life of sacred history.
On May 15th we celebrate the 111th
anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone for the third church structure in the 161-year
history of this parish.
The cornerstone reads:
“In the year of our Lord 1898.
Pope XIII – the so-called “pope of the working man” and Archbishop J. J.
Kain. For generous German speaking
Catholics.”
It is a reminder to all that “we are built on a foundation laid by
apostles and prophets with the cornerstone being Christ Jesus…In union with him
we are being built into a place where God lives through the Spirit.”
-- St.
Paul to the Ephesians
We are, in fact, a work in progress, as the saying
goes. Rooted in the celebration of the
sacraments, especially the Eucharist, the process of growth continues. It is a
work of becoming more diverse in our membership, it is a work of sewing the Good
News into the fabric of the neighborhood around us, and it is a work of wise use
of the resources with which we have been blessed.
On Trinity Sunday, June 7
we will celebrate that God is leading us toward a very bright future. We will honor the name of our parish and our
church that day at 9:30 am mass, and we will again host an old fashioned block
party in the street from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Invited to join us will be our Hyde Park
and Old North St. Louis neighbors, area businesses and civic organizations. We can all catch our breath and look forward
to the next 161 years.
We especially invite you to
join us that day to participate in both celebrations, or to come visit us at 9:30
am mass on any other Sunday. We simply
enjoy having guests! |
